All Doors in The Original Garden Door series are Available in Genuine Certified California Grown clear aye kiln-dried Redwood; Genuine Certified California Grown clear heart kiln-dried Redwood; or clear kiln-dried Western Red Cedar in 42"w x 72"h standard size. Doors come unfinished, with hardware as shown (latches & hinges are not included). Custom sizes and work are available up to 5' (wide) x 8' (tall) through special order only .
We have chosen Genuine California Grown Redwood and Western Red Cedar due to their natural beauty and resistance to decay. Redwood naturally varies in color from deep red to light creamy, and it has a varied grain pattern. Unstained cedar maintains a very light orange tone, and it usually has a regular, tight grain pattern. Both species weather well and if desired may be left “natural” to reflect the aging process. Redwood will weather into a very light reddish-gray color, while cedar will age into a regal silver. If staining is desired, redwood readily accepts darker stains while cedar does well with clear or lightly tinted stains. Painting either redwood or cedar any color to match your needs is also a possibility as both species paint exceptionally well.
The Original Garden Doors are intentionally designed with minimal use of fasteners. When the use of fasteners is necessary, only the highest quality non-corrosive hardware is used. All door construciton involves the use of polyurethane based glues and a variety of laminating and tongue and groove methods. Doors are sold unfinished - ready to be painted, stained, or left in their natural grain state.
